We got more make up!! Its called Too Faced! Its cruelty free (of course) and really nice! I bought a lip gloss for myself and I love it! I think the girls will too! Thanks Too Faced for being cruelty free!

Okay so here it is!!!

What some makeup companies do to animals is sickening! The other day I was in CVS and picked up a foundation by L’Oreal. Then, I remembered that you mentioned they tested on animals. I pictured one of those poor little bunnies; needless to say L’Oreal just lost me as a costumer. Your blog caused me to look through my makeup and throw out makeup made by companies that test on animals. Also, I looked for makeup with the "leaping bunny". While reading this blog I was curious about two things:
What other animals are tested on?
Do the makeup companies you mentioned that test makeup on animals test all of their makeup on animals or just certain products?

Okay, to answer your questions the other animals that are tested in are rats, mice, rabbits, and birds are the most tested on. For your second question, they test on most of their products but not all, sadly there is no way to know.

Thanks Kristen!! To answer your question about Clinique this is what they have said about them testing on animals
"Clinique does not test our products on animals, nor do we ask others to test on our behalf. We use very few animal ingredients; the few that we use are by-products of the U.S. animal food industry. We use them only when their efficacy cannot be duplicated by any other source of ingredients. It is a corporate policy that logos, animal testing for instance, not be displayed on the packaging of our products."

Wow, that's terrible that poor, innocent animals have to go through this! I use a lot of Clinique makeup. Do they test on animals? I felt so bad for the poor bunnies that eye makeup is tested on. You're doing a great job at letting people know all of the horrible side effects that this makeup causes on animals, such as burns from eye makeup on the bunnies. Thanks for the list of places that don't test on animals and I learned about the "leaping bunny" too! That was really interesting to read about the cells that can be used to test on instead.

It is terrible that cosmetic companies test their products on animals. Its not fair to the animals, they have rights too! I think companies don't care about what they are doing they are more interested in making the products. As a girl I use makeup everyday and my favorite company is Covergirl, I think they don't test their products on animals but I am not sure. My body wash is also not tested on animals. I always check if it is tested on them before I buy the product. I have one question do the companies just say they don't test it on animals when they really do. Are they lying?

To answer your question is that on most things there will be a "leaping bunny" symbol and that will indicate that its not tested on animals, you know that they are not lying because the symbol means that they "leaping bunny" company has made sure that the company will not and dont test on animals!:D

I totally agree! It's really sad the companies test on animals, especially because results for animals and humans are obviously not the same. It's really sad that animals could die from makeup with harmful effects :( Are there any companies you know of that DO test on animals? Thanks!

My Opinion on the Mary Kay Products

Ok, sorry for the long brake over the summer when I was not blogging. But I am back! So now its my opinion on the Mary Kay products that I have bought. I bought a face cleanser and moisturizer for teens and hand scrub and moisturizer. I have to say I love the hand scrub and moisturizer! It made my hands feel amazing! My hands were soft and felt great after every time I used it. My friend also used it for a week when I was at camp and loved the feel of her hands. (The cold water from the camp sinks where quite a shock to our hands and my face when I used the creams.) The face cleanser and moisturizer was good too. The only downside to the face products is that I have to remember to use the products everyday which I am not that great at doing! Though when I did use the face cream my face we clean and glowing. When I would forget to use the creams on my face, it when back to dull. The names of the hand products that I strongly suggest getting are called "satin hands." It comes in a set of two bottles, one is a pump bottle that is a "satin smoothie hand scrub" and the second bottle is a squeeze tube which is a "hand cream." Both of the bottles are orange. A couple of weekends ago there was a fair in my town, so I went with my friend, I signed up for a raffle to win a free Mary Kay makeover and a 25 dollar gift certifict. Later I got a call from Renee who is a Mary Kay specalist (and very nice) and she told me that I had won the makeover and gift certifict! She also said that I could share it with 1 or 2 other people (I choose my mother). So we set an appointment, on that day we got ready and she came! Renee was very nice and exited as we were! She set up on our dining room table and we were set! Renee let us try many different types of skin care. She had everything! She had different types of care for different people and there skin types. My mother or Susan as she said in an earlyer post she said that she had dry skin, I have oily skin so she had 2 different types of care for both of us. After we got to try the wonderful skin mosterizer, we got to figure out our skin tone and foundation. We figured out what our complection was, once we did that she let us try it on our hands we got to smooth more of it on our face. Then after that we got to try an eye cream that got rid of wrinkles (not for me) and black circles! That really worked fastly! We could see a change in minutes! After we tryed everything we got to choose what we wanted to buy and keep. My mother got skin care for her and for her hands. I got skin care called Volcity which is made for teens so there skin does not become oily and doesent stay oily. I also got a wonderful hand softener and mosierizer. My mother and I will have our opinions on all of our Mary Kay products. Mary Kay is 100% animal cruelty free!

The other day I went to the mall and went to The Body Shop and I bought some lip butter (cocoa nut smelling) and this worked really well. I usually have very bad chapped lips in the winter but once I stared using the lip butter I did not have chapped lips that offten. (I still had some chapped lips) The Body Shop were very helpful and happy. Thank you The Body Shop for helping!

Here’s a review for all the older ladies! (Hopefully Beyoncé will come up with a song for us soon! Lol!) I am a 50-year-old Mom with dry skin and a couple of age spots (eewww!). Running out of my daytime face cream, I decided to try “Wise Woman Regenerating Day Cream” from The Body Shop ( http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/bodyshop/ It was not cheap, ($32.00).

Loved the store, there were lots of great smelling creams and lotions to try. (Moroccan Rose is a standout, I’m a fan of florals anyway). The Nature’s Minerals Loose Face Powder looked good on the back of my hand, excellent coverage and a matte finish, but was so messy to use, I decided not to buy it. There was a lot of information available about their philosophy, fair-trade practices, environmentally-friendly packaging and, of course, their stand against testing on animals. (http://www.thebodyshop-usa.com/bodyshop/values/index.jsp If you don’t want to read labels but still be animal- and planet-friendly, this would be a convenient way to shop.

The store manager was friendly and energetic and knew her product line. I was disappointed to discover the daily moisturizer for women my age had no sunscreen, but I decided to try it anyway, since my foundation has an spf of 20. The name of the product made me think of pictures like this, http://flickr.com/photos/kazkapades/272225375 beautiful to be sure, but not the look I’m going for. However, the lotions feels GREAT. It has a little bit of subtle sparkle that works for me, too, and a very light but pleasant scent.

I will definitely shop at The Body Shop again, although I probably won’t buy the “Wise Woman” face cream again, it was expensive and had no sunscreen.

Why Even Test?

There is no real reason that people and make up companies test on animals, the animals have different reactions than humans do. So why do makeup companies test on animals? Makeup companies test on animals because they think that the makeup will have the same effect on them as it may us, which is not true. The companies also (as I said in an earlier post) have to make sure that the makeup is safe for humans and shipping in large amounts.

Testing Without Animals

There are ways to find out whether the product is harmful to humans with out using and harming animals. This is called Neutral Red Uptake Assay, this is when they take alive cells in glass dish and put a drop or two of the chemical or product in the glass dish with the alive cells. Then they come back later and see how the cells reacted with the chemical mixture. This is also called "in vitro" or literally "in glass". This does not involve animals or humans in the testing. This does not hurt any one or any thing. This type of testing does not involve animals or humans and does prove whether or not the product being tested can be harmful or even deadly.

Since so many people believe that testing on animal is cruel and not right most makeup companies claim that they don't test on animals. But by trading standards the makeup must be tested some how to make sure that the product is not harmful to humans. In some countries you can meet these standards. But in the U.S and Japan some companies have to test on animals to meet these standards.

Some makeup companies test their makeup on animals. Most of the makeup companies test their eye make up on rabbits and rabbits don't have tear ducts (what make us cry) like us so they force open the eye and put the make up on the eye. It feels like getting soap in your eye and it burns. Since the rabbits don't have tear ducts it burns the eye and eventually it will eat away at the eye. This also may cause the animals to struggle (because of the pain) agenst the straints and brake their necks so they die. This is all cause by testing makeup on rabbits. The poor little bunnies! This is just one of the many problems that testing makeup on animals cause.
